Alice in Burtonland

I heard this movie was coming from my bro about a month ago. Didn’t think we’d see a trailer this early:

(I had the video embedded here, but instead you can click on THIS to watch it on the channel itself)

Alice in Wonderland will star Mia Wasikowska as Alice. Don’t know her? She’s that girl Lilya from Suburban Mayhem! Still doesn’t ring a bell? She was Sherry in the movie Rogue! And how about that performance in I Love Sarah Jane as Sarah Jane? No? Well, beats me who she is, too. She’s an Aussie. And the relevance of that fact, I have no idea.

Of course, being a Burton movie, the extremely “Burtonized” Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter will be apearing as the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen respectively. What’s new, eh? I’ll tell you what: the AWESOMENESS.

Oh, you knew they were gonna look like this...

Oh, you knew they were gonna look like this...

The significance of this movie lies in the casting of Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. Although I honestly love her the way she’s doing NOW (Havoc, Brokeback Mountain, and all those recent serious movies), this movie could mark the beginning of her Burtonization… We’ll see about that, eh?

The art of turning this...

The art of turning this...

... Into this.

... Into this.

The main reason for most people to watch this would probably be Johnny Depp. Well, okay, maybe he is. And also, of course, a darker Alice has always struck as appealing, spawning countless art depictions and comics like this:

Okay, I cheated, it's not Alice, it's her daughter Calie in black.

Okay, I cheated, it's not Alice, it's her daughter Calie in black.

Seriously though. I can’t wait ’til March 5, 2010. In the mean time, check out that Return to Wonderland comic series, it’s nuts, plus it’s an awesome reshaping of a world we all know and love (thanks to Disney). TIM BURTON PLEASE BRING THE WEIRD BACK.
